The Zonta Collect

Keep us, O God from pettiness; Let us be large in thought, in word, in deed. Let us be done with fault-finding and leave off self-seeking. May we put away all pretence and meet one another face to face without self pity and without prejudice. May we never be hasty in judgement, and always generous.Let us take time for all things, make us grow calm, serene, gentle.Teach us to put into action our better impulses, straightforward and unafraid. Grant that we may realize that it is the little things that create differences and that in the big things of life, we are at one. And may we strive to touch and to know that great common woman's heart of us all, and O Lord God, let us not forget to be kind!

Hello ladies.
You never know where inspiration will strike.

As the ZC of Concord's YWPA Committee reviewed applications, they realized that their members could fill another need within the community.  One of the applicants was a young women from Nepal who had spent 17 years in a refugee camp before immigrating to the US two years ago.  During that time she has become proficient in English and received consistently high grades.  Her essay included information about the status of women in Nepal and the role that education plays in forging a better life.
In conjunction with the club's Service Committee, and with the approval of its members, the club decided to award a New American Merit Scholarship to this young woman.  Not only that, the club voted to offer this scholarship next year.  A committee will develop selection criteria for this award and an appropriate name.

Kudos to Concord Zontians for not only discovering a need, but for working together to make a difference.  A great team effort!

Let's all be inspired by those around us,
Mary Ann
