Dear Zontians,

Celebrated annually on 8 March, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the progress made towards achieving real equality for women in all aspects of life. It is an opportunity for us all to reflect on the achievements of the past and to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead as we continue and strengthen our efforts to improve the lives of women around the world. International Women’s Day also coincides with Zonta Rose Day – a special day for Zonta clubs and Zontians around the world to raise awareness in their local communities of Zonta International’s mission to advance the status of women worldwide.

As you celebrate International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day, know that you have much to be proud of. As members of Zonta International, you have contributed to Zonta’s efforts to make lasting and positive changes in the lives of women throughout the world, including working to end violence against women and provide survivors of violence the services they need in El Salvador, Guatemala and Haiti. In Cambodia, Nepal and Uganda, you have supported efforts to prevent burns violence and have helped survivors of burns violence seek justice. In Rwanda, you are a part of a collaborative effort to ensure the first HIV-free generation by 2015; and, in Liberia, your efforts have provided hundreds of life-changing surgeries and rehabilitation services to women suffering from obstetric fistula, giving them back their lives.

Likewise, your commitment to Zonta’s educational programs helps women achieve their educational goals and pursue careers in fields traditionally dominated by men. The Amelia Earhart Fellowship enables women studying aerospace science and engineering to conduct research that can have an impact on our everyday lives. Our Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship recipients and Young Women in Public Affairs Awardees are the next generation of leaders and benefit greatly from our encouragement and support.

I encourage you as districts, clubs and individual Zontians to celebrate International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day in a meaningful way in your community. Plan a service project to commemorate the occasion; invite a friend or colleague to learn more about Zonta membership; or make a donation to the Zonta International Foundation to support and sustain Zonta’s service and advocacy efforts worldwide. However you decide to celebrate, I hope International Women’s Day is an inspiration to you as a district, as clubs and as members of Zonta International to continue to support our service and advocacy efforts that ensure a better future for women and girls worldwide.
Best wishes for a meaningful and memorable International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day!

Warm regards,
Dianne K. Curtis
