What is Zonta?
|
Zonta International is a worldwide organization of
executives in business and the professions working together to advance
the status of women.
|
What does the Zonta Club of York County
do?
|
We are a pretty active group for such a small group. We
meet monthly at a supper meeting the second Thursday of each month at the Captain’s
Galley, Old Orchard Beach, Maine. We have fund raisers to
support our projects. Our one large fundraiser is in June where we have Zonta
night at the Hackmatack Theater in Berwick, Maine where we raise money with a profit from ticket sales and by soliciting local
merchants for a program book. We have a candle sale thru a catalog with
Village Candle. An In-House Auction with donated items. We are pretty busy.
|
What are some of the Zonta Club of York County's
local service projects?
|
Our main project each year is to give a $1,000.00 scholarship to a local
technical college for a woman returning to school. We also do collections for
the local shelter and at Christmas this year we adopted a local family
through the Salvation Army. In addition, we give a large donation to Zonta
International and one local charity.

Zonta International supports and administrates several
different international service projects and/or programs. Each biennium, Zonta

programs are in developing nations and are selected by the Zonta
International Board and approved by the Zonta International membership. To
learn more about Zonta International's International Service Projects for the
current and past bienniums, visit the Zonta

Zonta International also administers several international scholarship
programs including: the Amelia Earhart Fellowship
Program which provides post-graduate fellowships to women in the fields of
aeronautics and aeronautical engineering; the Jane M. Klausman Scholarship Program, which provides college scholarships to women in business;
and the Young Women in Public Affairs, which offers recognition and
scholarships on the district and international level for outstanding young
women who are making a difference in their world through service.
In addition, many Zonta clubs sponsor Z and Golden Z Club Programs that
provide mentoring and support for young high school and college aged women.
Additional information regarding these and other Zonta International Programs
can be found on the Zonta International web site at www.zonta.org.
